Hopkinton resident Catherine Howe is passionate about pastels because of their pure pigments and rich colors. She draws inspiration from nature, both water and sky. In her pastel images, Catherine tries to capture moments of silence and movement in the sky; the calm before the storm, and the relationship between the shifting atmosphere and the constant changes in the sea. She is inspired by color, light and shadows.

Catherine teaches pastels classes to children and adults at the Hopkinton Center for the Arts. She is a juried associate member of the Pastel Society of America, member of Pastel Societies of Cape Cod, New Hampshire and Maine and is one of eight artists in the Lake Whitehall Artisans Group.
Her work can be seen in private collections throughout the US and abroad and she does commissions.
