Summer Reading Program 2009

Summer Reading Program

Looking for some books to read for Summer Reading?  The Ashland Public Library is a great place to find books this summer!  Come to the Library and pick up your Spaceship Adventure book bag, filled with a bookmark, a tattoo, a color-changing pencil, and a cool Space Shuttle eraser.  You can also put your name up on the Summer Reading display.  Each time you check out Library books you earn one coupon to Massachusetts museums, zoos, and other attractions. The coupons include many fun places to visit, like the Southwick Zoo, Davis Farmland, the Acton Discovery Museum, and the Ecotarium.

When you finish 100 chapters or 17 hours of reading bring your Summer Reading packet to the Library & you can choose a FREE book from the Library's special prize collection, provided by the Friends of the Library and a generous donation from Scholastic, Inc.  You can keep earning free books all summer.

You must show your reading chart to the librarian to get your free book. You can also help earn new books for the Library. Ashland merchants have pledged donations for kids who reach level 100 and level 200. The more kids who read this summer - the more books the Children's Room will be able to buy. Last year's readers earned 30 new books for the Library! We'll put a special sticker on your name tag each time you earn another book.

If you have a younger brother or sister, age 2 to Pre-K, be sure to tell them about the Ashland Public Library's Read-To-Me Program. Younger kids who join the program will also receive a book bag with goodies inside, and have their name tags put up in a special place near the Picture Books. They also earn coupons to Massachusetts attractions whenever they check out Library books.

The 2009 Ashland Summer Reading Program is co-sponsored by the Ashland School Committee, the Ashland Public Library and the Ashland Business Association. Additional support is provided by the Massachusetts Regional Library System, the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners,  the Friends of the Ashland Public Library and scores of volunteers from the Ashland community.
